Volunteer Driver with OPAL (Older People Active Lives)

About OPAL
OPAL works across the Scottish Borders to reduce social isolation and help older people maintain independence and well-being. Our dedicated volunteers provide encouragement, companionship, and support so that older people can enjoy social, leisure, and community activities.
Purpose:
Help older people in the community stay connected by providing safe and reliable transport to and from local community groups and activities.
Role Summary:
As a Volunteer Driver, you will play a vital role in reducing isolation by ensuring attendees can access social groups and events. You’ll liaise with the OPAL Coordinator and provide a friendly, supportive experience during journeys.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collect and drop off older people at community groups and activities.
• Ensure passengers feel comfortable and safe during travel.
• Assist with getting in and out of the vehicle if needed.
• Communicate with the OPAL Coordinator regarding schedules and any issues.
• Be punctual and reliable for agreed transport times.
Skills & Attributes:
• Friendly and approachable with good communication skills.
• Reliable and safety-conscious.
• Holds a valid driving licence and has access to a suitable vehicle.
• Enjoys helping others and supporting the community.
