We want the branch to be as inclusive as possible for our volunteers and to help remove any barriers to their contribution. In support of that, we would like to recruit a ‘Supported Start’- Additional Support Volunteer, who would be available to support any branch volunteers, who, whilst able to contribute to their specific volunteering role, may need some extra support with that initially. This could be some help to understand communications, to have instructions broken down to help with understanding, or with working alongside shadowing or supervising the volunteer, until they are confident in the role themselves.
The ‘Supported Start’ Additional Support Volunteer- role will be a vital resource to both the branch and the individual volunteers supported.
What you will be doing
Support the branch to ensure their volunteering is as inclusive as possible
Provide 1:1 or small group support to volunteers who require a little extra help at the start of their volunteering journey.
Support volunteer compliance with NAS policies including risk assessment, data protection and safeguarding, by helping explain them in a way which the volunteer can understand and can then comply with.
Help break down key information and instructions relating to the tasks to be undertaken in the volunteers’ role.
Work alongside, allow the volunteer to shadow you, or supervise the volunteer, to help ensure safe and confident development of skills for the tasks required of their volunteering role (e.g. practically demonstrating tasks, supporting practice, role play, etc).
Keep the Branch Chair informed about volunteers’ progress and readiness to engage independent of the ‘Supported Start’- Additional Support Volunteer.
