Run Director at Springburn Junior Parkrun

We are looking to extend the team at Springburn Junior Parkrun by incorporating some new Run Directors to the existing core team.
Parkruns can only take place thanks to a number of volunteers who get involved to enable children to enjoy a free, safe, community based, 2k run every Sunday morning in Springburn Park, where we have hosted around 200 events over the last four years.
To summarise, we are looking to add to our existing core team of Run Directors who would be willing to help coordinate and put on junior parkrun events on a rotational basis (once every 7+ weeks). The events take place every Sunday morning, are fun and rewarding, they have the potential to make a big difference in the lives of families and children in the area. This opportunity doesn't require a significant time committment, but we can find a place for any extra initiative and enthusiam you may have to offer.
A Run Director's role is to manage the volunteers and running of a parkrun event on a rotational basis, ideally once every 7 to 8 weeks depending on the size of the rota. We are recruiting to replace two long term run directors who have taken the decision to step down having contributed a lot.
What's involved?
In simple terms, the RD does (or delegates) the following roles during their rota'd 'run week':
Organises the volunteer team so everyone knows their role
Briefs runners at the start
Responds to any incidents if they occur
Recruits volunteers during the week
Checks and sets out the kit
Processes results
Handles communications.
We also meet roughly once a quarter to check in and deal with any issues and listen to the input of the entire team.
You’re very welcome to:
Try it just once to see how you get on
Shadow an existing RD for a week to observe what’s involved and learn about parkrun.
There’s no pressure, the existing team are available to support you at every step.
If you're interested, please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on [email protected].
If you apply for this role, we'd first like to meet you and introduce you to the parkrun format before taking things forward. We're happy to have you along to the event one Sunday morning, or to chat via email or videocall to explain more about the role and what's involved in becoming a run director. I can assure you it's a fun and rewarding experience that doesn't ask too much of your time.
I will reach out to you personally in the near future, and should you need to ask any questions our email address is [email protected]

Experience required

Fluent English is required to communicate vital safety instructions
If you're community minded and enthusiastic then you'll fit right in.
Familiarity with the parkrun format would be helpful but not necessary.
Having your own transport in order to transport the small amount of equipment may be required for each event.
Run directors will require a PVG check which will be paid for by parkrun.

Travel details

The event takes place in Springburn Park every Sunday morning at 9.30.
