The Volunteer Advocacy Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting the International Women’s Group by championing women’s rights, ensuring their voices are heard, and empowering members from diverse cultural backgrounds. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about equality, social justice, and fostering inclusive communities.
Main Responsibilities
Advocacy and Empowerment: Represent and advocate for the interests and rights of women within the group, supporting them to access relevant services, resources, and opportunities.
Help members navigate systems such as healthcare, education, housing, and social services.
Information and Guidance: Provide accurate information regarding rights, entitlements, and available support. Offer guidance in understanding policies and procedures, and signpost members to specialist organisations when appropriate.
Individual Support: Listen to members’ concerns in a sensitive and confidential manner, assisting them to articulate their needs and aspirations. Support women in overcoming barriers related to language, culture, or discrimination.
Facilitation and Group Work: Assist with the organisation of group meetings, workshops, and events aimed at building confidence, skills, and community spirit. Encourage active participation and peer support among members.
Collaboration: Work closely with other volunteers, staff, and partner organisations to ensure a coordinated approach to advocacy and support.
Contribute to the development of a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of support provided and outcomes achieved, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing evaluation and improvement of services.
