Volunteer Befriender

FDAMH is an independent mental health charity serving the Falkirk and District community, established in 1981. For over four decades, we have been committed to supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing accessible, compassionate, and person-centred services.
We deliver a range of tailored one-to-one and group-based mental health and wellbeing supports designed to meet the diverse needs of our community. Our services are rooted in a holistic, client-centred approach, ensuring that every individual is supported in a way that respects their unique circumstances, strengths, and aspirations.
Our aim is to promote positive mental wellbeing by providing safe, inclusive, and supportive environments where people feel valued, heard, and empowered. We work alongside individuals, families, children, young people, and carers to support recovery from mental ill health, reduce isolation, and prevent deterioration in wellbeing.
We are currently recruiting compassionate, reliable Volunteer Befrienders to support young people who may be experiencing social isolation, low confidence, or who would benefit from having a consistent, positive role model in their lives.
Volunteer Befrienders will:
*Spend time on a weekly or fortnightly basis with a small group of young people in a safe and supportive setting
*Provide a listening ear, encouragement, and meaningful conversation
*Support the development of confidence, self-esteem, and social skills through shared activities
*Take part in fun, engaging, and age-appropriate experiences that promote connection and wellbeing
*Offer a consistent, trusted adult presence that young people can rely on
By giving just 1–2 hours of your time each week, you can make a lasting and meaningful difference in a young person’s life.
We provide full training, ongoing support, and reimbursement of agreed expenses, ensuring you feel confident, valued, and well-equipped in your role.

Experience required

You don’t need qualifications; just kindness, patience, and a genuine interest in supporting young people.
