Blackhall Playgroup Committee Member

Purpose of the Role
To support the effective governance and smooth running of Blackhall Playgroup by contributing to decision‑making, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and helping maintain a warm, nurturing, community‑focused environment for children and families.
Committee members work collaboratively to oversee the strategic, financial and operational wellbeing of the playgroup, ensuring it continues to thrive as a high‑quality early years setting.
Major Responsibilities
Governance & Oversight — Ensure the playgroup operates in line with its constitution, policies, Care Inspectorate requirements and charity obligations.
Support for Staff — Provide guidance and practical support to the Manager and staff team, helping create a positive working environment.
Decision‑Making — Attend committee meetings, contribute to discussions, and help shape the direction of the playgroup.
Community Engagement — Strengthen relationships with families and the wider community.
Fundraising & Events — Support fundraising activities, events and initiatives that benefit the playgroup.
Financial Stewardship — Assist with budgeting, financial planning and ensuring funds are used responsibly (role‑dependent).
Role‑Specific Expectations
Committee members are expected to:
Work collaboratively and respectfully with other volunteers and staff
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
Support the playgroup’s values of inclusion, kindness and community
Uphold Health and Social Care Standards in decision‑making
Commit to attending regular meetings (usually monthly or termly)
Take on small tasks between meetings depending on skills and availability
Skills & Qualities
We welcome committee members from all backgrounds. Helpful qualities include:
Good communication and willingness to share ideas
Reliability and commitment
Teamwork and a collaborative approach
Basic organisational skills
An interest in early years, community work or supporting local families
No prior committee experience required — training and support provided
Time Commitment
Monthly or termly committee meetings (approx. 1–2 hours)
Occasional support with events, fundraising or admin tasks
Flexible around family and work commitments
