Volunteers needed for Gaelic based activities at Uist Machair Events over the summer
Volunteering details
Local people, Gaelic officers, Gaelic speaking volunteers, community groups and event organizers are invited to take part in the Uist Machair Events – Summer 2026.
The aim is to increase the visibility, confidence and everyday use of Gaelic at major community events across Uist this summer through a shared “Gaelic Hub” approach in the Uist Gaelic and Community Plan Tent.
Come along or encourage others to join in one or more of the events; North & South Uist Games, North & South Uist Agricultural Shows (for even an hour or two of the day)
How you can get involved
• run a Gaelic activity for children -art, sports,?
• run a workshop for adults?
• interview people about their memories of the games, shows, life on the machair?
• Run an interactive Gaelic games slot
• Chat to people and give out stickers?
• Do a Traditional skills demonstration such as Eriskay jumper knitting, creel making, spinning and traditional knot work?
• Come up with your own innovative idea?
