Volunteer Mentors

Right There's work is rooted in communities across Scotland, supporting people of all ages who are facing
challenges such as family breakdown, homelessness, poverty, addiction, or transitions from care. Over the
years, we’ve delivered a range of community-based mentoring programmes that offer consistent,
compassionate support to those who need it most. We are currently seeking volunteer mentors for three
key programmes: intandem, supporting care-experienced children aged 8–15; Young Person’s Mentoring,
open to children and young people under 18 regardless of care experience; and Adult Mentoring, which
offers tailored, one-to-one support to adults across our services to help build confidence, social
connections, and personal growth.
We are recruiting volunteer mentors with a kind and empathetic nature to support adults (18+) and young
persons (7-18) who are being supported in our short-term housing, supported accommodation, next step
housing and outreach programmes across East Dunbartonshire. Our community mentoring programme
encourages personal growth, social connection and sustainable integration within communities for the
people we support.
As a volunteer you will be fully supported by our team of Volunteer Coordinators who will get to know your
skills, passions and interests allowing you to be suitably matched with one of the adults and young persons
that we support.

Experience required

Be kind, empathetic, and approachable, and able to build trust with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, adapting to different environments and situations.

  • Be reliable and consistent, with a strong sense of responsibility toward their mentee.

  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries at all times.

  • Be culturally aware, open-minded, and genuinely interested in supporting others.

  • Bring a positive, encouraging attitude and a willingness to learn.

  • Be comfortable travelling within the community to meet their mentee.

  • Be able to commit up to 2 hours per week or fortnight to support their mentee.
Through volunteering as a mentor, you will further develop your interpersonal and personal development
skills, including active listening, adaptability, and the ability to navigate real-life challenges with empathy
and kindness. Many of our volunteers tell us they gain confidence, a sense of purpose, and leadership
    skills.
