Wildlife Watch Leader

For over 60 years, the Scottish Wildlife Trust has worked with its members, partners and supporters in pursuit of its vision of healthy, resilient ecosystems across Scotland’s land and seas. The Trust successfully champions the cause of wildlife through policy and campaigning work, demonstrates best practice through practical conservation and innovative partnerships, and inspires people to take positive action through its education and engagement activities. It also manages a network of over 100 wildlife reserves across Scotland and is a member of the UK-wide Wildlife Trusts movement.
Scottish Wildlife Trust are looking to recruit volunteer ‘Wildlife Watch Leaders’ to help children to connect with nature, as part of the Muiravonside Wildlife Watch Group (for children aged 8 to 13). Volunteer Wildlife Watch Leaders all bring an enthusiasm for working with young people and for sharing their own enjoyment of the natural world. They are looking for enthusiastic individuals to become inspiring Leaders, working as part of the team of local, like-minded volunteers to plan and run sessions for the Muiravonside Wildlife Watch Group.
Main tasks for this role will involve:
*planning and preparing a programme of quality monthly outdoor sessions that give children opportunities to connect with the natural world *supporting the promotion of the group
*maintaining health and safety and safeguarding standards
*liaising with families
*collecting and storing data securely (such as parental consent forms), and undertaking risk assessments

Experience required

*An interest in wildlife (no need to be an expert - you can learn as you go!).
*Creativity
*Good organisational skills
*Enjoys the outdoors
*Enthusiastic about helping children and/or young people to have fun discovering wildlife
*Able to be an excellent representative of the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
Any experience of working with children, first aid qualifications or work/volunteer experience within conservation would be ideal but not necessary.

Travel details

Muiravonside Country Park, Falkirk (The Loan, Whitecross, EH49 6LW). There is parking and can be accessed via public transport.

Travel expenses

Volunteers can expense their public transport tickets and mileage (45p per mile).

Support
Training details

Volunteers will receive a 1 to 1 induction as well as training before they start the role.
Volunteers are supported throughout their volunteer registration. Volunteers are offered continuous training to help build and develop their skills.
New volunteers start on a 'probation period' where they shadow an experienced leader for 3 sessions to find their feet in the role. Volunteers have access to a bank of online resources to help them within their role too.

Minimum age: 16

Volunteers must be put through the PVG scheme.

Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
