The Drop-In Volunteer will utilise their unique understanding gained from managing their own mental health to assist staff in the smooth delivery of our monthly drop-in, the first Wednesday of the month.
Experience required
Aged 18 or over
Good communication and excellent listening skills
Open to supporting a diverse range of people with a non-judgemental approach
A kind, caring and empathetic person with a positive and hopeful attitude
Reliable and respectful
Ability to reflect and build on experience and ask for additional support if required

Shortlisted candidates will need to attend Training and onboarding process
Successful candidates will be offered a place as a volunteer and will start their onboarding process.
All volunteers will need to provide 2 references and complete PVG check

Frequency & commitment
Time Commitment: 3 Hours / Month – The first Wednesday of every month - Support the smooth delivery of our monthly Drop-In by helping to set up the space beforehand and assisting with tidying and clear-up afterwards - Provide a warm, welcoming presence to everyone attending, including helping with teas, coffees, and registering people as they arrive - Assist staff in facilitating recovery-focused activities, workshops, and group sessions - Help create a safe, person-centred environment where people feel listened to and supported - Be aware of any concerns that arise during the Drop-In and report these promptly to staff so that appropriate support or escalation can be provided - Engage with support, supervision, and reflective practice - Contribute your experience in a way that helps to inform how we develop and improve the Dop-In - Commit to putting Penumbra’s values into practice - Always maintain clear boundaries and confidentiality - Uphold Penumbra’s Code of Practice
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
