About this event
The Scottish Young Carers Festival is an annual residential event for young carers across Scotland.
Young carers are young people under 18 who provide unpaid care for a family member or a friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems.
The Scottish Young Carers Festival provides the opportunity for young carers to meet other young people in similar situations, to have a break from caring and of course, have fun! The event is also attended by key decision makers where young carers can share their experiences, the impact that caring has on them and suggest changes that could make their lives better.
Carers Trust Scotland has been running the Scottish Young Carers Festival since 2008. From 7th – 9th August 2024, 500 young carers will attend with their local young carers service. We need lots of volunteers to make sure our Festival is a safe and enjoyable event!

How much time do you need to commit?
Any time you can give us would be much appreciated, and Thursday 8th August 2024 will be our main activity day. Volunteers who can support the full event will be provided accommodation on site.
What support will you be given?
A member of the Carers Trust Scotland team will be your main point of contact. We will meet with volunteers online ahead of the event and share briefing notes and a full explanation of your role for the event. Travel expenses and meals will be covered.
Volunteer roles available at the event:
Volunteers will contribute in a number of different ways to ensure the smooth running of the Festival. This will include welcoming and directing attendees and organisers, overseeing registration, supervising activities such as silent discos, lunch queues, consultation space and general tidy up and ground management.
Any contribution big or small can make a huge difference. There are many benefits to yourself and others when you volunteer!
