Social Centre Volunteer - Jedburgh

Support people to attend regular social activities and connect to their community.
You could be driving people to their local centre, offering lunches, healthy snacks and a good blether, and tailoring support through social activities.

If you'd like to have a positive effect on people in your community, this is the role for you.
The role is flexible and works around your skills and talents. The aim is to work towards supporting older people to enjoy a social environment and have an opportunity to reduce social isolation and loneliness. The role can be split into areas of purpose, across the session, where you offer an hour one week and maybe more the next.

Skills and talents that could be advantageous to the social centre service provision include:


Support in setting the venue session to meet the needs of the day.
Meet, great welcome – serving a snack and cuppa/drink on arrival.
Having conversations that engages and connects within our core value to care and protect.
Supporting and delivering stimulating activities that sparks brilliance, fun and engagement.
The importance of strong teamwork that coordinates light cleaning, kitchen duties and serving meals.
Playing a music instrument, being creative with household waste, reading stories / poems
Encouraging, supporting and delivering a shared group activity, with the aim of supporting client to leave the session, having good fun, banter and a feeling of value and worth.
Supporting the end of session closedown, ensuring clients leave safely and light cleaning duties.


Experience required

Working with people - people skills.
Verbal communication skills.
Social intelligence – caring, empathic, and enabling.
Planning, organising and reviewing – self-management and ensuring tasks and activities are delivered on time.
Problem-solver and solution focused.
Person-centred and relationship-based practice.
