Telephone Shopping List Caller

The Food Train operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible.

Our Falkirk branch is currently seeking volunteers to help Falkirk Food Train collect weekly shopping lists from our shopping service members! Every week we collect approx 50 shopping lists from our members over the telephone, which are typed up and printed out and used by our volunteer shoppers in-store (Asda or Morrisons). This service is a lifeline for many, and an important source of social contact; a Food Train phone call may be the only call that person receives that day.

If you love to chat and have some spare time then please do get in touch!

Experience required

Volunteers should be patient, confident and able to communicate clearly over the telephone. Needs to be able to add shopping lists into a simple spreadsheet, and have an email address to communicate with the Falkirk office.

Travel expenses

We have an expenses claim form for volunteers, and we reimburse reasonable travel expenses or fuel at 45p per mile.

Support
Training details

We have extensive written call guides and the role will be talked through in detail during initial conversations with new volunteers (either in person or over the phone). No question is a silly question and we encourage good communication and feedback from our volunteers, especially if they would like any additional support. New volunteers are welcome to shadow someone in the office before making some calls of their own. There are plenty of staff and volunteers in the team who are always supportive and friendly. We have regular meetings with our team of volunteers to address any concerns and share training/team building opportunities, as well as running social events a few times a year to say thank you to our volunteers.
