We are looking for Volunteers for our MS Borders Group for the following:-

MS Borders Group Co-ordinator - We are looking for a future Group Co-ordinator who has an interest directly or indirectly in MS to lead our Co-ordinating team to help in providing the best possible support for people affected by MS in the Central Borders. Our group is a friendly and very active group providing therapies, grants, social and information events with great fundraising support from the wider community. There will be an opportunity to work with the present Group Co-ordinator before she retires at the end of the year.

We are also looking for volunteers to join our established Co-ordinating team who meet monthly either face to face meetings or if this is not possible you can join in the meeting by zoom. As a group we co-ordinate therapies for people with MS, organise fundraising/social and information events. We provide emotional and practical support to people affected by MS, in addition we provide grants to people with MS and have a small grants team to approve grants. We are also involved in campaigning for better services for people with MS and have had several
successful campaigns. . All training will be given and each volunteer will be matched up with an existing volunteer.

In addition to the Co-ordinating team we are also looking for volunteers who are willing to help with events, this could include baking for some events. Other volunteers might be willing to put on fundraising events to fund our extensive therapy programme.

Role Descriptions

Group Co-ordinator is the lead person of the Co-ordinating Team who make group decisions in the best interests of people affected by MS and they would have an overview of all the group activities, fundraising, therapies, grants, finances and campaigns. They would also be responsible to ensure that all the Service Level Agreements are up to date for all the therapies. The Group Co-ordinator would be the main link between the local MS community and the MS Society Scotland. They would also work closely with the Treasurer and other members of the group and be available for monthly meetings.

Co-ordinating Team volunteers - will help to make group decisions and will also be attached to an existing volunteer. There will also be an opportunity for the Co-ordinating volunteer to link in with an area that interests them or one which they have expertise in e.g. campaigning, fundraising, communication, organising events, fundraising or supporting people with MS. We are particularly interested in young people to join our young persons group since they will be the volunteers of the future. We welcome people with MS onto our Co-ordinating Team group.

Outwith the Co-ordinating team volunteers in the community to help the team with fundraising events, social and information events.

People affected by MS are an integral part of our volunteers and are welcome to apply for any of the above roles.

Experience required

Group Co-ordinator - ability to lead and energise the Co-ordinating team of people to provide support and services
for people with MS. Innovative ideas particularly on how to support and involve young people in the delivery of
services, support and campaigning.
A knowledge or experience of people affected by MS and the ability to communicate with the wider community
and where necessary health and social care providers.
It is essential for the Co-ordinator to have good communication skills within the group and also the ability to work
closely with the finance Treasurer.
Basic Computer skills would be essential.
We are looking for at least a 2 yr commitment although 3yr would be preferable.
