Ninewells Community Garden

Volunteering as a garden grower within the Ninewells Community Garden can involve a number of activities. In general the role will involve:
• Working as part of the gardening team.
• Assisting in practical aspects of developing and maintaining the garden.
• General gardening maintenance tasks such as weeding, deadheading, tidying the wider surroundings of the garden, watering, pruning etc.
• Working cooperatively with other volunteers, visitors and residents from the neighbouring communities.
• Communicating with the facilitator and/or board of trustees about needs or concerns to ensure a safe, accessible and enjoyable environment.
• Assisting with household duties (washing, cleaning etc.) in our Leaf Room to ensure a healthy and safe indoor environment.
• Supporting the greater objectives of the community garden and be an ambassador of the garden.
We offer additional opportunities to share your skills, interests and ideas such as landscaping, planning and design; specific horticultural expertise; wildlife and nature surveys; other supporting skills such as administration, marketing, art & design, events, education etc. Please speak to us about these opportunities.
Experience required
• An enthusiasm for community gardening would be expected.
• A willingness to work as part of a wider team of volunteers is essential.
• Gardening skills are welcomed but not essential.
• A willingness to work in all weather conditions is advantageous.
Travel details

Travel expenses
We do not routinely reimburse travel expenses but may be able to dependent on individual need.
Support
Training details
• An initial induction will be given to all new volunteers
• Additional training and support is available depending on need.
• It is expected that volunteers will identify any support needs required.
• We offer regular volunteer meetings to provide an opportunity to give feedback and contribute ideas.
Taster
Potential volunteers are welcome to attend a facilitated session to see how the garden works and to determine whether the role is right for them.
Restrictions
Minimum age: 16
Availability
Frequency & commitment
We are able to be flexible on commitment but ideally 2 hours per week within our facilitated volunteering sessions.
Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
