No matter how good our services are, we can't properly support our users/community well if we don't have good organisers in the team. If this sounds like you... we would love you to consider volunteering with us for a few hours per week.
Bairn Necessities is a charity that provides new and pre-loved clothing, toys and equipment to families in the Drumchapel, Knightswood and Yoker areas. We operate a referral scheme where people can refer themselves, or via their health visitor, social worker, nursery etc. Our aim is to make sure that families on low income don’t go without essentials needed for babies and young children by reducing waste and preventing items from going to landfill. Bairn Necessities is currently run by a team of dedicated volunteers. We are open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week between the hours of 10am and 2pm. We ask volunteers to dedicate themselves to a regular 2-4 hour slot per week.
The donations assistant role is at the heart of the project. Working as part of a team, you will be involved in ensuring that only high quality items and clothing pass our ‘reusable test’. This involves checking every item that comes into the unit. Each donated item goes through a quality control process which eliminates items that we would not use ourselves. Items are separated, sized and stored in preparation to be redistributed in packs to families.
So whether you are looking to use your time well, update your skills or have the chance to do something a bit new, we can offer you a warm welcome and all of the support and help you could need.
