Event Volunteer

Cyrenians is a charity aimed at tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness. Our Falkirk projects provide safe spaces for those feeling isolated from their community to gain confidence and plan for a more positive future. We offer people a judgement free support network to move towards a more settled life; offering workshops that help with confidence building and health and wellbeing. We also support individuals trying to gain employment whilst navigating the stigma attached to their experience of being unemployed or being involved in the justice system.

Throughout the year we host free community events in the Cyrenians Community Learning Hub at Arnotdale House and the Walled Garden. All funds raised at these events go back into developing and maintaining our services and the Garden. This role will support our Falkirk Team execute their free community events. Working with the management team, and Service Coordinator to plan fun, free, family events utilising the resources we have available to fundraise and raise awareness of Cyrenians in the Falkirk area.

Tasks will vary based on your interests and Cyrenians’ needs but may include:
-Assisting the team with fundraising event planning and delivery.
-Assisting with queries from the public about the events we are running.
-Assisting with events promotion.
-Supporting the Falkirk team on the day of planned events at Dollar Park, including welcoming the public.
-Assisting with donation processing.
-Assisting the Falkirk team make connections with local businesses, and groups.


This role is intended to be flexible to suit your skills and interest. We want to make sure that volunteering helps you to develop your skills, experiences and have fun! You will:
-Experience of working in event organising
-Experience of networking with members of the local community
-Ability to solve problems under pressure
-Be part of a friendly and dynamic team, meeting new people and having fun
-Help us in our mission of tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness
-Access to Cyrenians’ internal training, including trauma-informed practice

Experience required

• Great communication skills
• Team player who is comfortable adapting to varied tasks to support busy events
• Confident using Outlook, spreadsheets and Microsoft Teams
• Understanding of confidentiality and boundaries, with a commitment to Cyrenians’ values of: Compassion, Respect, Integrity and Innovation
• Patient and respectful of all people.

Frequency & commitment
The events are usually held on a Saturday between 11am – 4pm, though we have planning meetings between events. We ask for an overall commitment of approx. 2 hours a week.

Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
