Sitting Service - children and young people

Volunteers provide short break care to parents/carers while supporting children and young people with additional support needs (and siblings) in the families own home. Support is provided by 2 volunteers for a few hours of an evening, usually monthly but this can change depending on a family’s individual needs.

Volunteers can play games, do arts and crafts, watch TV, read stories etc. Activities will vary depending on the age and ability of the child or young person. This role provides needed short break care to parents and carers.

The role usually takes place on a Friday or Saturday evening but the depending on the family the role could take place on any weekday/weekend evening or potentially could take place during the day on a weekday/weekend. This would be agreed between family and volunteers during the matching process.

Experience required

Volunteers do not need to have previous experience supporting children and young people with additional support needs but if a volunteer does have previous experience with children and young people with additional support needs it would be welcomed. We are looking for volunteers who are motivated, reliable and want to make a difference to children and young people lives.

Travel expenses

The role takes place at the family home, in Dundee. Travel expenses are reimbursed for public transport and mileage to and from the family home. (Dundee boundaries only). For some of the sits a taxi fare can be reimbursed for getting home. Receipts are required when claiming.
