Patient Experience Volunteer

The NHS Lothian Patient Experience Team is looking for volunteers who will interact with patients, families, and carers to gather information about their experience of care and treatment. Volunteers will do this by conducting surveys, interviews, and/or attending promotional events.

The Patient Experience Team works with services across NHS Lothian to support them gaining feedback from patients to help the service understand what they are doing well and the areas where they could improve.

Your role will be to undertake tasks allocated by the Patient Experience Team at various sites across NHS Lothian (primarily St. John’s Hospital, Western General Hospital, Royal Infirmary Hospital), gathering patient feedback through surveys, interviews, and/or promotional events.

Experience required

You must have strong communication skills, be confident to approach people, and able to collect information in a systematic way. You must also have strong spoken and written English with an ability to ask questions and engage in discussion. Furthermore, you must be reliable and committed.

Travel details

Sites are reachable by public transport.

Travel expenses

Agreed out of pocket expenses which are incurred when carrying out this volunteer role will be reimbursed in line with the NHS Lothian volunteer expenses policy and signed off by the Voluntary Services Manager.

Training details

You will attend two training sessions each lasting approximately 2 hours each. Session One (9/5) will be online and Session 2 (16/5) will be in person.
