Volunteer Conversation Club Assistant

Whiteinch Centre is a community facility led by the people of Whiteinch. It provides a hub at the heart of the community making Whiteinch a vibrant place to live, work and play.

We are seeking enthusiastic and empathetic volunteers to join our team as Conversation Club Facilitators. This vital role involves leading and managing conversational practice sessions for adults who are not native speakers of the language. Our Conversation Club aims to provide a friendly and supportive environment where learners can practice and improve their conversational skills, gain confidence in their speaking abilities, and connect with others on a similar journey.

Volunteering Role tasks:
• Support the Conversation Club Coordinator to facilitate weekly conversation sessions that are engaging, inclusive, and respectful of all participants' diverse backgrounds and language levels.

• Create a safe and welcoming environment where participants feel comfortable practising their language skills, making mistakes, and asking questions.

• Support the Conversation Club Coordinator with activities that encourage active participation and conversation among club members. This may include topics of discussion, games, role-plays, or storytelling exercises.

• Monitor the progress and participation of attendees, offering constructive feedback and encouragement to support their language development.

• Liaise with the Conversation Club coordinator to provide updates on club sessions, including any challenges faced and suggestions for improvement.

• Attend volunteer training sessions and meetings as required, to enhance your facilitation skills and stay informed about best practices in language learning and community engagement.

If you are interested please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on 0141 226 3431.
