Loneliness is a public health crisis- as dangerous to your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and doubling the chances of developing Dementia in later life.
Over 200,000 older people in Scotland say they feel lonely all or most of the time- Age Scotland’s Friendship Service aim to combat this!
Community Connectors links older people to clubs and groups in their local community- befriending, interest groups, health and wellbeing, further learning opportunities the possibilities are endless!
Community Connecting volunteers are paired with an older people for a period of up to three months, offering information, support and encouragement over the telephone.

Travel details
Friendship Caller can get involved remotely or in person at our head offices in Edinburgh.
Travel expenses
Our volunteer expense policy covers costs pertinent to the volunteer’s role.
Support
Training details
Friendship Caller training takes place via teams and covers all the information you’ll need to make sure you’re confident during calls.
We also arrange a 45 minute systems Induction to ensure you’re confident on our platforms.
Restrictions
Minimum age: 18
Availability
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
