Trustee

Forth Environment Link (FEL) are looking to appoint new members to their Board of Trustees, to help develop their long-term plans and oversee their delivery. If you’re passionate about the environment and community climate action, have good independent judgement and are a strong strategic thinker, this could be a great role for you. If you’ve got experience in any of the following, fantastic – fundraising; equality, diversity and inclusion; research and evaluation; digital leadership; project management; youth engagement; and including lived experience of food or transport poverty are all priority areas for FEL.

If yours is a different background, still come and talk to the team. Everyone brings something unique and FEL could well be looking for yours. The Board particularly want to add more diversity to the team in its make-up, knowledge, age and experience. So they’re really keen to meet younger people, candidates from an ethnic minority background and/ or anyone who has taken part in an FEL project or used any of their services.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any previous Board experience – they’ll give you the training and support you need to play your part. FEL is an Equal Opportunities Employer and a Registered Charity. Forth Envrionment Link promote equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and actively encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.

THE ROLE: WHATS INVOLVED
FEL Trustees’ main duties are
• Promoting and representing their vision, mission and values
• Setting their long-term strategic direction and goals
• Making sure FEL have the structure and resources to achieve them
• Agreeing the policies and procedures through which FEL works
• Offering support and advice to the FEL board, staff and volunteers
• Making sure FEL correctly monitor and report on what they do
• Managing risk, guaranteeing accountability and ensuring the charity complies with all requirements of our governing document, regulators and the law
• Making sure FEL manage their finances prudently and report on them accurately
• Representing FEL in their dealings with external stakeholders and partners

Above all, their Trustees use their skills, knowledge and experience to help the Board make the right decisions that will keep them changing the world for the better. They do this by:
• Scrutinising board papers
• Leading discussions
• Focusing on strategic priorities
• Providing guidance on new initiatives

THE COMMITMENT: WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO DO
FEL Trustees are all volunteers, and are expected to give at least 10 days a year to the organisation. Although the role is unpaid, FEL reimburse expenses incurred on FEL’s behalf and in travelling to Board meetings. The Trustees meet every other month, normally at the main FEL office in Stirling but potentially also online. Apologies for absence are by exception only and can be given for a maximum of two meetings a year. For this reason, we prefer our Trustees to be able to control their own diary. FEL Trustees are appointed for a three-year term and can be re-appointed twice.

HOW TO APPLY
If this sounds like you – and you like the sound of FEL – then please apply: email your CV and in a word document explain why you’d like to join the board and what you can bring to the role (500 words max) at the following address to info@felscotland.org by Sunday 7th July.

And if you need more information, any support in making your application or would just like to chat to us about the role and how your skills and experience might fit, do get in touch: just email info@felscotland.org to arrange a time to talk.

Volunteers (aged 12-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
