Garden Assistant Midlothian Community Hospital Garden

Midlothian Community Hospital Garden has a mission to make opportunities for good food and healthy lifestyles available to local communities. Tasks to suit all abilities include: building and maintaining infrastructure, sowing, weeding and harvesting vegetables, tree and bulb planting, helping to manage areas for wildlife, and co-ordinating garden sales. We are open to individuals, school and corporate groups, NHS patients and staff, charities, and people experiencing physical or mental health issues. Learn about seasonal flowers, fruit and veg, meet new people, enjoy communal meal breaks and watch your input grow. Experience required

An interest in gardening and the outdoors, experience is not essential but should enjoy working as part of a team with minimal practical support. Helpful, reliable and non-judgemental.

We cover local travel costs at public transport rate or mileage, or a meal if volunteering for over four hours at a time

Training details

Informal visit to the garden, followed by induction meeting to go through health and safety, expectations of role and organisation, online training opportunities available, and onsite workshops. Volunteers work independently in the garden but are offered guidance with tasks

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
Over 16s can attend if accompanied by a guardian. Volunteers are allocated tasks and work independently in the garden
