Treasurer

The role of Treasurer is essential for the operation of the charity. The role is a member of their Trustee body and will play a part in general decision making as well as in the specifics of the Treasurer role. They will be expected to attend Trustee meetings, which are usually held around 6 time a year but are more frequent in the run-up to the illuminations.

Alva Glen Heritage Trust was founded about 20 years ago to help maintain the public areas of Alva Glen. The whole workdays on the first Sunday of every month (except in January), when their team of dedicated volunteers plant and maintain floral displays, remove litter and keep the paths clear in the lower part of the glen. The group commissions and maintains the visitor attractions such as sculptures, as well as specific wildlife features including bughotels and a hedgehog home.

In the upper part of the glen they maintain habitat for the nationally rare Northern Brown Argus butterfly. Once every two years they arrange the renowned Alva Glen Illuminations, which attracts around 4,500 visitors in two hours.


The Treasurer is a key role on the Trustee body and is responsible for the probity of their financial transactions. Alva Glen Heritage Trust are not a large organisation and their total funds rarely exceed £7,500.


The specific duties of the Treasurer include:



  • maintaining accurate records of financial transactions;

  • preparing annual accounts;

  • finalising and signing accounts with the independent examiner;

  • ensuring all invoices are paid on time;

  • advising the board on available funds;

  • ensuring restricted funds are managed appropriately;

  • assisting in preparing grant applications; attending Trustee meetings and the AGM.


Support will be offered by their current acting Treasurer and other members of the board. They have some very experienced and helpful volunteers.


Experience required

They need someone with:


  • numeracy experience

  • financial record keeping
    management.


Applicants must have good written and oral communication skills.

They must have an open and inclusive attitude and be able to relate to people from all backgrounds.


Support
Taster

Applicants will be supported by their current acting Treasurer as well as other members of the Board and their volunteers.

Anyone interested is welcome to join them to see what they do on one of their workdays at Alva Glen Car Park, 10 a.m. on the first Sunday of every month (except January) with cake at 12.

Restrictions

Given the need for experience of financial management this role is unlikely to be suitable for a person below the age of 20, otherwise there are no restrictions though they would prefer a resident of Clackmannanshire.

Volunteers (aged 12-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
