Play Alloa Volunteer

Play Alloa was founded in 1992. It gained charitable status in 1995; and company status in 2010. Over the years, Play Alloa has grown steadily, currently employing over 25 staff. Play Alloa is registered with the Care Inspectorate and staff are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).​

Their aspiration is to offer an extensive range of creative play and social activities to as many local children and adults, with disabilities and/or additional support needs, as possible. This includes the provision of services such as play sessions, youth groups, adult groups, and summer holiday activities.

They offer several sessions throughout the week aimed at children, youth and adults. These include after school sessions, play sessions, youth clubs, adult groups and a wee play group for toddlers.


Volunteers assist the Session Coordinator and Play Workers in providing a caring, secure environment, through individual attention and group activities, and to lay out an appropriate range of play and social activities for service users with a range of complex additional support needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. To provide safe, creative and appropriate play opportunities including laying out activities, and arranging equipment as requested by the Staff & Session Coordinator.

  2. To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.

  3. To ensure confidentially of information received.

  4. To be aware of the high profile of Play Alloa to uphold its standards at all times

  5. Volunteers will not participate in personal care.

  6. Volunteers will not be left alone with a child/young person


You will be responsible to Session Coordinator in the first instance, overseen by the Senior Session Coordinator and Senior Project Manager.


Experience required

There are no formal requirements for volunteering with Play Alloa, just a willingness to get stuck in!

Support
Taster

Once you hand in your application Play Alloa would invite you in for an informal chat about your experience, why you want to get involved, their sessions etc. and you would be given a tour of their facilities.

Once that is complete the team would then arrange for a day for your to come in and complete their training (about 45minutes - 1 hour) and go into your first session.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 14
The minimum age requirement is 14.

Volunteers (aged 14-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
