ROCK TRUST
- VO101883
Rock Trust works with young people between the ages of 16- 25 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Our role is to advise, educate and support young people. We want to enable them to build the personal skills and resources required to make a positive and healthy transition to adulthood, while avoiding or moving on from homelessness. We think that resilience and positive social networks are key in successfully moving on from homelessness and we work with professionals across Scotland to support individuals affected by loneliness and isolation. Help us End Youth Homelessness in Scotland.
Do you want to create positive change in your community?
We’re seeking volunteers to assist with different support services offered to young people at risk of homelessness.
Volunteers are an essential part of Rock Trust, thanks to their time, expertise, and dedication we’re closer to ending youth homelessness in Scotland.
Our Mentors are matched with a young person age 16-25 who is homeless or at risk of homelessness. We ask each Mentor to commit to meeting up with a young person for 2 hours a week for up to 12months.
As a Mentor for the Rock Trust, you would work alongside your Mentee supporting and encouraging them to achieve a goal they set themselves, in an enjoyable way that improves their wellbeing.
We know that having a Mentor can help a young person to:
-Increase their opportunities to move into volunteering, ed, training or employment.
-Have greater social confidence and positive relationships.
-Explore what is available to do in their local community, reducing social exclusion and increasing physical and mental health.
Our volunteers benefit from:
-Training and continual learning opportunities.
-Regular support and supervision meetings with their line manager.
-The Rock Trust covers volunteer expenses
-A chance to develop their skills and experience.
"I love watching and hearing about a mentor and mentee getting to know each other and developing a genuine partnership where they can work towards the mentee’s goals in a socially enjoyable way. The young person knows they have chosen their mentor, and their mentor is choosing to spend time with them. The best thing about a good match is when both parties benefit and improve their wellbeing."
We particularly welcome applications from people who have had experienced homelessness and the care system and are looking to use their experience to help others. Full training and support will be given.
