Castlemilk Park Project: Woodland Maintenance Support Team Member

Castlemilk Park is a Commonwealth Woodland in the heart of Castlemilk, a housing estate in the South East of Glasgow. As well as being a fantastic example of the regeneration of an urban woodland, it is a thoroughfare for local people to access their community: for example, schools, the shopping centre, bus stops, health centre, and a variety of community projects.

Cassiltoun Housing Association, located on the edge of Castlemilk park in Castlemilk Stables, leads a partnership of local organisations who work together to improve the outlook, access, and use of Castlemilk Park. Part of this partnership is the Castlemilk Park Project. This group of volunteers is led and supported by the Community Woodland Officer and the wider Community Team from Cassiltoun Housing Association.

Focusing on keeping Castlemilk Park clean and accessible, the group take part in activities such as:
-Path maintenance
-Hazel coppicing
-Woodland thinning
-Outdoor education
-litter/ fly tipping removal

All training for sessions will be provided as well as the opportunity for external training certificates such as brushcutter, strimmer and first aid training. There will also be opportunities for volunteers to take part in some biodiversity recording and learning including bat box learning, tree I.D and wildflower surveys.

Our sessions run on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm and are primarily outdoors. As we expect to be out in all weather conditions, all volunteers are provided with a tshirt, hoodie, hard hat, gloves, waterproof jacket and bottoms and boots.

If you are interested in working with the Castlemilk Park Project, please apply at the button below and a member of our team will aim to get back to you within 5-7 working days.
