Outreach Research Volunteer – Fortis FoodGuard

Are you organised, great with research, and want to make a real difference without needing to speak to anyone?

We’re looking for a remote volunteer to help us expand Fortis FoodGuard - a simple but powerful supermarket voucher service for people who struggle to manage money due to disability, addiction, or mental health challenges.

Your role will be to help us identify and record organisations that support vulnerable people, such as local charities, housing associations, and advice centres, who could become referral partners. These partners work directly with clients to set up budgeting support using supermarket vouchers.

You can choose to focus on a specific region of Scotland, or on a specific cause that’s important to you (such as mental health, addiction recovery, or learning disabilities).

We’ll provide a spreadsheet template and email wording - all you need to do is research, log the details, and send outreach emails. You will not need to speak to anyone on the phone or in person.

This role is flexible, remote, and requires a minimum of 2 hours per week, but you’re welcome to do more. You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team, and your work will directly help vulnerable people access budgeting support and essential food.

If you experience anxiety, have communication difficulties, or prefer not to speak, we’re happy to support you entirely through email or online chat, including for your initial conversation with us.

Each week, we’ll also let you know how many organisations have signed up because of your efforts - so you can see the real-world impact you’re making for people in need.

Experience required

You should be confident using Excel or Google Sheets, comfortable researching online, and able to write clear, professional emails.

Attention to detail, good organisation, and the ability to work independently are important. You don’t need to speak to anyone – this is a fully non-verbal role, ideal for someone who prefers behind-the-scenes work. We also welcome volunteers with lived experience of disability, mental health challenges, or recovery.
