People who come to Dalkeith CAB for information and advice on issues like benefits, debt, housing or employment are often worried about their situation and aren’t sure what to expect. We’re looking for a volunteer to greet them when they arrive and explain what will happen next, so they feel less anxious and unsure. You will help triage clients to add them to our system so digital proficiency or the willingness to learn basic digital skills is essential to the role.
We also require follow up case work or light administration tasks as part of the role. Minimum 4-6 hours a week, can be split over 2 days between Monday to Friday at our Dalkeith Bureau. We also cover outreach across Midlothian so you could join our members of staff in these areas as a welcome volunteer between
office hours. You’ll receive training and full support from our experienced staff team and volunteers. The role is subject to a trial period of 8 weeks. You’ll be reimbursed for travel expenses.
Experience required
Commitment to the mission, aims and values of Dalkeith CAB is important.
A respectful and polite manner towards clients, staff and volunteers.
Experience of engagement with the public (paid or unpaid) is beneficial but the ability to engage with people who may be anxious or distressed while remaining calm and informative is more important.
Experience of reception, customer service or other roles (paid or unpaid) engaging with the public would be helpful but not essential.
Knowledge of IT systems and the ability to carry out administration tasks while gathering correct information.
