Volunteer Air Cadets Civilian Instructor

Civilian Instructors are adult, non-uniformed members of staff.
Air Cadets squadrons cannot run without the support of Civilian Instructors and each RAFAC squadron has at least one.

Being a CI is a varied role and allows you to use your skills where they best suit. Your interests outside of the organisation and skills picked up from your working life will be vital and beneficial in helping cadets to develop and grow.
The tasks of an Instructor include but are not restricted to the following:
Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of Children and Young People for whom they are responsible.
Delivering instruction and training to cadets aged 12-19.

Ideally you’ll be able to attend Parade Nights (Mondays and Thursdays 7.00-9.30pm) or be able to commit to a particular night each week. However, there are no minimum time commitments and you can parade as much or as little as need be.
You can get stuck into a wide variety of activities. You’ll be able to teach cadets, go on camps, take cadets to a variety of activities, gain qualifications e.g. First Aid qualifications or assessing the Duke of Edinburgh award.

You don’t need to wear the uniform.

Experience required

There are no specific experience requirements for this role; having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things! Being reliable, trustworthy, enthusiastic, a good communicator, team player and role model are very important.
Volunteers say they gain a huge sense of achievement from helping young people realise their potential, so why not give it a try?
