Food Train Delivery Driver + Helpers

Do you enjoy driving? Alternatively, would you enjoy delivering shopping to those struggling to access supermarkets? Do you want to help older people stay healthy and independent at home? YES! Then this is a great volunteering opportunity for you.

Food Train is a charity helping older people across Scotland. We offer our members practical help to eat well, age well and live well at home for longer.

We’d like to see access to food and meals for older people right across Scotland that is readily available, culturally appropriate, nutritious, fresh and designed to improve the health and wellbeing of our older population.

As a Food Train volunteer, you will receive all the support and information required to complete your role safely and confidently and we firmly believe that you shouldn’t be out of pocket, so we offer reasonable reimbursement of expenses.

Our trusted, reliable, and friendly volunteers provide a vital weekly food shopping service that helps older people stay healthy and independent at home.

Volunteers usually help us on Tues/Weds/Thurs with a 9.30 am start at our Govanhill base. We can also meet you at Newlands or Govan on the relevant days for the time required, normally around four hours. Afterwards, you are welcome back at the base for a cup of tea and a chat. You are welcome to work as many shifts as you can manage when you have spare time.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, we collect the shopping from Morrisons Newlands and visit Asda Govan on Thursdays. Volunteer Drivers deliver shopping around Glasgow accompanied by a Volunteer Helper.

We provide a van for deliveries and all equipment to support this activity.
This social and active post will help keep you fit and active whilst providing an invaluable service to the local community.

If you are interested, please click "Apply", and we'll be in touch to arrange a chat and a visit to the centre. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder for your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out, then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow at info@volunteerglasgow.org.

There is no formal interview, although we would normally meet up for a chat first to explain more about what's involved. Training is provided on the job, and we may also require you to watch a quick video online.

Some of our roles will require you to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme because you will be working directly with vulnerable adults. But don’t worry, we will support you through the whole process, and you will not be expected to pay for this yourself.
