Supporting Beach Wheelchairs customers access our specialised Beach Wheelchairs and enjoy Portobello beach. It involves Opening up the container based in tumbles carpark in Portobello, get equipment ready and check condition, meet and greet customer, making sure they are happy with the chair of their choice, agree return time, meet customer for return hire. Clean down. chairs and safely lock up the container. Can also be involved with fundraising activities, open days, outreach events.

Travel details

Our container is beside the car park at Tumbles on the seafield end of the promenade. Parking is in the Tumbles carpark. Portobello high street is a 3 minute walk away and several buses pass here on a regular basis.

Travel expenses

Expense reclaim form will be supplied by the treasurer.

Training details

We would start with an informal chat and look around the container.
Discuss role and expectations.
Meet other volunteers and allow you to chat about their experience.
Over 2/3 sessions learn the equipment and paperwork.
Buddy an experienced volunteer for 2/3 hires
When confident you can do solo hires but always with the support of another volunteer on the phone.
Refresher training ongoing but formally every 6 months.
