Peer Connections

Peer Connectors are trained student volunteers help other students get used to university life and provide support and information. If you've been at the University for a year or more and would like to become a Peer Connector, as part of the Peer Connections service, we would love to hear from you.

Working in small teams, Peer Connectors take on a variety of tasks such as:

o Welcoming new students
o Answering questions and showing students where to go
o Assisting at induction and social events
o Helping new students settle in · Buddying and mentoring
o Meeting regularly with students who need further support or information
o Acting as informal mentors - offering ideas
o Facilitating buddy groups for new students · Organising and promoting
o Distributing publicity materials for Student Services in relation to services or campaigns, for example, health, volunteering.
o Organising or assisting at social events for students. · Listening


Experience required


  • Minimum of one year study within University of Dundee as an undergraduate student or previous study in another University if Postgraduate

  • Friendly and approachable

  • Interested in helping people

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, or willingness to work on these

  • Ability to handle any issues in a calm manner

  • Ability to volunteer flexibly

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision

  • Knowledge and awareness of university service, Dundee city and student life as a whole.

Training will take 2 hours and can be offered online or in person. Training will cover the following topics

*Student Issues and referrals
*Personal safety/boundary setting

Restrictions

Must be a current University of Dundee student if they want to volunteer as this is an in university volunteering opportunity.
