Peer Connectors are trained student volunteers help other students get used to university life and provide support and information. If you've been at the University for a year or more and would like to become a Peer Connector, as part of the Peer Connections service, we would love to hear from you.
Working in small teams, Peer Connectors take on a variety of tasks such as:
o Welcoming new students
o Answering questions and showing students where to go
o Assisting at induction and social events
o Helping new students settle in · Buddying and mentoring
o Meeting regularly with students who need further support or information
o Acting as informal mentors - offering ideas
o Facilitating buddy groups for new students · Organising and promoting
o Distributing publicity materials for Student Services in relation to services or campaigns, for example, health, volunteering.
o Organising or assisting at social events for students. · Listening
Experience required
- Minimum of one year study within University of Dundee as an undergraduate student or previous study in another University if Postgraduate
- Friendly and approachable
- Interested in helping people
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, or willingness to work on these
- Ability to handle any issues in a calm manner
- Ability to volunteer flexibly
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision
- Knowledge and awareness of university service, Dundee city and student life as a whole.
