Befriender for Young People - Moray

We are looking for befrienders to befriend young people as part of our Youthpoint Moray Service. As a volunteer befriender you would be matched with a young person, who you would spend regular time with on a 1:1 basis, building a trusting relationship having fun and supporting young people to transition out of service and onto the next stage of their journey. You would take part in activities that a young person enjoys such as playing football/cooking or introduce them to new activities or hobbies that they may not have the opportunity to take part in.

What will I be doing?


  • Making a difference in a young person’s life.

  • Spending regular time with a young person and/or their family

  • Supporting young people and families when difficulties arise

  • Sharing an activity/hobby within the local community

  • Attending and supporting young people and families to take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities

  • Completing a diary log after each visit

  • Attending regular support and supervision sessions.

Support
Training details

  • Induction and child/adult protection training

  • Specific befriending training

  • Role specific training for supporting children & families

  • Ongoing support and supervision.


Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
This opportunity is subject to the completion of satisfactory references and successful registration on the PVG Scheme.

Frequency & commitment
- Befrienders will spend regular time with a young person on a weekly or fortnightly basis. - As our young people may be at school, outings and activities may take place after school hours. - A minimum of 6 months commitment is required for this role.

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
