Bike Maintenance Assistant at Free Wheel North: Keep the wheels turning, keep the joy rolling.

Be the hands behind the handlebars – at Free Wheel North, your practical skills help power inclusive cycling experiences for all ages and abilities. Every bike you fix brings joy, freedom, and movement to someone who needs it.

About the Role
Do you love working with your hands? Enjoy fixing things, learning how stuff works, or want to support a great cause behind the scenes?
Free Wheel North is looking for a practical, detail-focused Bike Maintenance Assistant to help us keep our amazing fleet of adaptive bikes, trikes, and go-karts safe, clean, and ready for action.
Our track at Glasgow Green is a hub of inclusive cycling fun—used by individuals, families, and groups with Additional Support Needs (ASN). With dozens of unique bikes in constant use, your support will help us stay smooth, safe, and super fun!
What You'll Be Doing
• Inspecting and maintaining our fleet of adaptive bikes, trikes, and go-karts to ensure they're in safe, working order.
• Cleaning and lubricating bikes to keep them in top condition.
• Assisting with repairs under the guidance of experienced staff or volunteers.
• Organizing tools and equipment, ensuring the maintenance area is tidy and well-stocked.
• Learning about adaptive cycling equipment, gaining hands-on experience with a variety of unique bikes.
Why Volunteer With Us?
• Make a real difference – Your work helps ensure a safe and joyful cycling experience for children and adults of all abilities.
• Learn and grow – Gain practical skills in bike maintenance that you can use in everyday life or in future jobs.
• Be part of something good – Join a warm, welcoming team with a passion for inclusion, fresh air, and freedom on wheels.
• Flexible and fun – Volunteer around your own schedule while enjoying the buzzing atmosphere of Glasgow Green.

Training & Support
We’ll make sure you feel confident and supported in your role. You don’t need any previous experience – just a willingness to get involved and learn!
Here’s what you’ll receive:
• A friendly induction and site tour, with an overview of the different bikes and equipment.
• Hands-on training in basic bike maintenance, safety checks, and cleaning routines.
• Ongoing guidance from experienced staff and volunteers – you’ll never be left on your own unless you're comfortable.
• A chance to gradually build your skills and take on more responsibility at your own pace.
Whether you're completely new to tools or already handy with a spanner, we’ll help you get stuck in.
Time Commitment
We’re flexible! You can volunteer:
• 1–2 times per week, or whatever suits your availability.
• Shifts are usually 2–4 hours, and can be arranged on weekdays or weekends.
• There’s a mix of indoor and outdoor work, so you’ll get fresh air (and maybe a bit of Glasgow weather!) along the way.
We're happy to work with you to create a volunteering schedule that fits your lifestyle, whether you're studying, working, or easing into retirement.
Who We're Looking For
You might be:
• A bike enthusiast or hobbyist looking to put your skills to good use.
• A learner who wants to pick up practical experience.
• Someone who enjoys hands-on work and being part of a friendly, purpose-driven team.
• Or just someone who wants to make a difference behind the scenes.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

Experience required

You don’t need to be a pro mechanic – just someone with a practical mindset, a good eye for detail, and a willingness to learn. We’ll provide guidance, tools, and support every step of the way.
