International Family Tracing Interpreter Volunteer (Glasgow - Somali)

Our Interpreter volunteers help communication between people who use our service and our volunteers/staff supporting them, by providing confidential interpretation and translation. We help them to find a way forward and start their lives in a new country.

We would like volunteers who:

Can volunteer on a regular weekly basis.
Can volunteer for at least 1 day each week, either as 1 full day or split over 2 half days.
The service operating hours are Monday to Thursday, 9am to 6pm.
Can commit to volunteering for a minimum of 12 months.
The ability to speak Somali is essential, with a good level of written and spoken English.
We would be particularly interested to hear from you if you are (or have been) an asylum seeker or refugee.


Experience required

Experience in interpreting and ideally trained or professionally qualified in
interpreting
Strong communication skills and empathetic about the situation and
needs of refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants
Able to volunteer in a multicultural environment
Able to verbally interpret and translate fluently in the specified language
Able to write in the language (as well as in English)
Emotionally resilient as you may need to deal with challenging or difficult
situations
Keep the people we support at the heart of what you do
Willing to complete a criminal record check
Willing to commit to ongoing training and development
