Clyde FC Community Foundation/Guardianship Scotland Summer Football Camp Volunteer

Clyde FC Community Foundation have been provided a grant which will allow us to run a holiday breakfast, football and lunch camp for 20 unaccompanied minors - young people who have arrived in the UK alone as asylum seekers - two half days per week throughout the school summer holidays. These young people, identified and referred through the Guardianship Scotland programme which supports them, would be provided with nutritious meals - which they would receive at school during term time - as well as providing health and wellbeing benefits through the provision of football activities delivered by qualified and experienced coaches from the Clyde FC Community Foundation.

Unaccompanied minors are among the groups in our community most at risk of exclusion from organised sports and healthy lifestyles (due to a combination of discrimination, insecure long term immigration status and experience of trauma) yet they are a community who is likely to benefit most from inclusion in sports and wellbeing activities.

We are looking for volunteers to support the delivery of this project, particularly those with an interest in peer support and supporting young people. Volunteers may support coaches but will not be expected to coach sessions and are primarily there to help to create a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for the young people taking part.

Volunteers can commit to multiple dates or single dates over the summer holidays.

Experience required

No formal experience is required but a passion for sports and inclusion are a must! Enthusiasm and strong interpersonal skills, across a range of cultural backgrounds, are more important than sports coaching or community development experience.
