Pollok Community Orchard – Volunteer Opportunity Summary
Pollok Community Orchard is a community-led initiative located at Pollok Community Centre in Glasgow. The orchard was developed in 2024 by Eco Drama in collaboration with local residents, schools, and community organisations including The Village Storytelling Centre and G53 Together. The project was inspired by the play 'The Forgotten Orchard' and shaped through creative workshops and community consultation. It officially launched in November 2024 with the planting of 22 heritage fruit trees and continues to grow with the help of local volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers to help us upkeep and maintain our community orchard at Pollok Community Centre.
We run ad hoc volunteer meetups and sessions (once every 6–8 weeks) where we maintain the trees, have skill exchanges and workshops, and share food and socialise. In between times, we have a team of volunteers who look after the trees; help with watering (especially during summer and warmer days), weeding, and litter picking.
The trees are less than a year old so will not bear fruit this year, but we have some smaller fruit bushes and are always looking for ideas and suggestions for the orchard.
Volunteers are a core part of what we do, and we organise one-off events like a summer picnic and wildflower day, a harvest festival (100 people+). If volunteers have ideas or would like to, they can get further involved in the work Eco Drama carries out in Pollok—helping to plan and deliver events and celebrations.
