Gig Buddy for Andy

Gig Buddies aims to link people with a learning disability with volunteers who share a common interest. A Gig Buddies role can involve anything that those two people share an interest in. This could include a music gig, but could be any other activity they enjoy doing together. It’s whatever your ‘gig’ is!

Gig Buddies is a project that was founded by “Stay Up Late”, a Brighton-based Charity, in 2013. Gig Buddies started in Scotland in 2016 with Thera (Scotland) and is a befriending project for people with a learning disability. We currently operate in Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian, and Glasgow.

In this role, you'll build a good relationship with the person you are paired with to get a really good understanding of what gigs they might like to go to and help the person with a learning disability to make decisions about what kind of gigs they’d like to go to. You'll also help your buddy develop a social network by regularly attending Gig Buddies social events.

We're looking for a buddy for a specific Gig buddies member who's been looking for a buddy for a long time. Andy loves watching sport, especially football, and has a great memory for past matches which he loves to chat about. He also enjoys meals out, mini golf, and of course, music. He loves pop from the '60s and '70s and particularly loves Libarace. He's also a talented sculptor!

A commitment to at least monthly meet-ups, and the flexibility to help arrange them.

If you think you would be a good buddy for Andy, please get in touch!

You don’t need any previous experience to be a Gig Buddy! As long as you have good communication skills, are friendly, kind, patient, and have a passion for getting out to events, we would like to hear from you! We need people who will help us ensure that people with a learning disability are enabled to live active social lives and make their own choices in how they live. We ask that you be happy to meet with your buddy roughly once a month.

You’ll need to be willing to help arrange the gigs that you and your buddy go to and be willing to attend our online induction training. This will get you feeling prepared and confident in your new role!

To apply, click the ‘apply’ button (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator via email or phone.

If you haven’t heard back within five working days, please first contact the organisation using the provided details, and check your junk or spam folders just in case. If you still need support, feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow at info@volunteerglasgow.org.

After applying, the Team contacts you with more info and may invite you to an informal chat. If selected, you’ll receive a full induction and details about training and next steps.
