Wildlife Information Centre (The)

You will be responsible for supporting the processing of biological records from a wide variety of sources, ensuring accuracy of data entry, quality control and data checking with recorders as necessary. You will also assist with ongoing data archiving and data cleaning tasks.
- Prepare spreadsheets of data sourced from online recording forms, the National Biodiversity Network Atlas Scotland, iRecord, recorders, recording schemes and elsewhere for entry into Recorder 6.
- Check records using NBN Record Cleaner, identifying any gaps and errors and research solutions to these, including liaising with recorders or data suppliers as necessary.
- Digitise records from scanned recording cards/ forms into Excel spreadsheet format ready for entry into our database, Recorder 6.
- Import spreadsheets of species records into Recorder 6.
- Scanning of historic paper datasets/ files.
- Contribute to data cleaning and data archiving tasks as agreed.
- Other projects/ tasks as agreed.

Travel details
Take the Borders Bus no. 51 (Galashiels to Edinburgh) and disembark at the Tynehead Road End (opposite) bus stop. From the bus stop it is a half a mile (10-minute walk) to the office.
Travel expenses
Volunteers can claim reasonable travel expenses (mileage is paid at 45p/mile) or reclaim bus tickets. Expenses are paid monthly.
Support
Training details
Induction and training will be provided in data policies and procedures, data entry, data checking, using Recorder 6 and Record Cleaner. Support will be provided by the Data Processor, with input from other staff.

Minimum age: 16
Availability
Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
