Education Mentor - The King's Trust

What is The King’s Trust Volunteering?

Volunteering with The King’s Trust means joining a supportive community of people who are passionate about helping young people thrive. As a volunteer, you’ll contribute your time, experience, and encouragement to support young people aged 11–30 who are facing challenges in education, employment, or life. Whether you're mentoring in schools, sharing life skills, or helping build confidence, your involvement can make a lasting difference. The King’s Trust provides full training and ongoing support, so you don’t need to be an expert—just someone who believes in young people and wants to help them reach their full potential.

Opportunity Overview

Volunteers are at the heart of The King’s Trust. Education Mentors play a key role in supporting young people aged 11–18—many of whom are experiencing disadvantage or disengagement from education—by helping them develop essential life, social, and employability skills.

As an Education Mentor, you will support groups of young people within school or community centre settings, inspiring them to raise their aspirations and helping them to unlock their potential. You’ll help create a safe, engaging space to build confidence, explore goals, and foster teamwork, communication, and self-belief.

We are particularly keen to hear from volunteers with experience or interest in the following sectors, as young people frequently express enthusiasm for them:

Hair & Beauty
Construction
Sports
Tech
Childcare

Role Responsibilities

Support face-to-face group sessions in a school or King’s Trust Centre, typically part of a 6–8 week block.

Encourage and motivate young people through interactive activities and discussions.

Help young people set goals, build resilience, and prepare for future opportunities.

Collaborate with other volunteers and King’s Trust staff to deliver engaging, inclusive sessions.

Contribute to a positive environment where all young people feel valued and supported.

Training & Support

Volunteers complete a structured induction, including online self-led modules, a live webinar, and in-person training with a Youth Development Lead.

You’ll receive ongoing guidance, access to session plans, and helpful resources throughout your mentoring journey.
