National Museums Scotland
- VO104236
National Museums Scotland is currently looking for a volunteer to help with our Eileen Crowford Collection at our National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
We are looking for a methodical, meticulous and curious individual to join our Global Arts, Cultures & Design team.
About the role
We are looking for a volunteer to transcribe longhand and shorthand diary entries which record the history of the items in this collection: where, when and in what context were objects acquired? This will help us to preserve this record for the future and increase the accessibility and research potential of this important and local collection of Modern & Contemporary Design.
What’s involved?
• Transcription of Pitman New Era shorthand
• Transcription of handwritten diary entries
• Working with the curator to create a digital version of the diaries.
This role may suit you if you are someone
• Who has Shorthand skills you’d like to keep using
• Who likes to organise information
• Who is interested in 20th century design
• Who has a good eye for detail.
When is it?
Volunteering hours are negotiable. Ideally, we are hoping our successful volunteer would be able to provide us with one Tuesday per week (hours agreed with the line manager). This is an open-ended opportunity so would suit someone looking to be involved long term.
