Coummity Council Member

Lenzie Community Council was established in 1977 and continues to meet monthly almost 50 years later on the third Wednesday of each month in Dean house to try to fulfil the objectives of its constitution as set out in the Local government (Scotland) Act 1973 which requires Community Councils to – in partnership with the local population – to seek to influence decisions at both a local and national lev
The general purpose of a Community Council shall be to ascertain, co-ordinate and express to the local authority for its area and to public authorities, the views of the community which it represents. Also to take such action in the interests of that community as appears to be expedient and practical.
In meeting these purposes LCC provides means whereby the people of the area are able to voice their concerns on any matter affecting the welfare, environment, development and amenity of the area and LCC conveys these views as appropriate to the local authority and other public bodies. LCC also works with local voluntary organisations and organises community events as opportunities arise
(as set out in the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973

We run four regular events each year – the Lenzie New Year Jog, the summer Gala, the Charity Christmas Card Fayre and the Christmas Lights switch-on.

Community Police officers normally give us a monthly report on crimes that have taken place over the previous month and on initiatives in the Police programme. We can pass on to the Police any concerns or information raised by local residents.

In addition to the posts of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, one member takes responsibility for reviewing and reporting on the monthly file of Planning applications and another keeps an eye on path access issues. We also respond to the many consultations raised by East Dunbartonshire Council and other public bodies.

We also try to help out local community groups if possible. For example, we provide donations to the Lenzie Youth Club for their annual football festival, to the Lenzie Churches Holiday Club for children and young people. Donations have also been made to groups such as Lenzie Scouts, Kirkintilloch Olympians, Kirkintilloch Players and Kirkintilloch Brass Band – groups which have provided assistance at our regular events.

Over recent years we have investigated issues such as flooding over the Auchinloch-Lenzie path beside the Gadloch and monitored the path network around the area. We restored the heritage clock at Queen’s Buildings to working order and you can now check the time as you hurry past for the train. If you have an issue you would like us to consider, please use the contact form (it works!)
