Community Driver

Real Life Options – supporting people with learning disabilities, autism and age-related needs to have a strong voice and a real choice in the way they live their lives.

At Real Life Options we champion the everyday choices of the people we support. Our volunteers are vital in supporting this aim, helping to provide greater control to the people we support through community, activity or driver volunteering.

Our volunteers help provide responsive, person-centred support for people with learning and physical disabilities, autism, complex needs, and challenging behaviours. Through their help, we can offer people pathways to independence and healthy lifestyles, within their communities.

Could you offer some time to make a real difference in people’s lives? Do you have good communication skills (verbal and non-verbal) and a friendly personality?

As a volunteer, you’ll receive a first-class induction, ongoing training and expenses paid whilst gaining new skills, meeting amazing people and feeling great satisfaction from making a positive difference in people’s lives.

We’re searching for  compassionate volunteer drivers to help transport adults and staff members to weekly social activities. These include visits to the pub, sensory sessions and to the supermarkets. Your support can make a big difference for these individuals who need assistance getting out into their local community.

Main Tasks

  • Drive adults safely to and from various locations (you will be driving company vehicles or the individuals own vehicles)

  • Offer a friendly, supportive presence during trips.

Training
No disability experience is required. We provide training to make sure you are supported in your volunteering role. This ranges from volunteer induction to specific training you will need for your role. (Please note we do not offer driving lessons or instruction)

What's in it for you?
By volunteering with us, you can:

  • Gain new experiences

  • Be valued and appreciated

  • Make a difference in the community

  • Meet new people
    * The satisfaction of knowing your time and skills directly help the people we support.

You will be provided with two named members of staff; the volunteer coordinator and your supervisor at the relevant service. The volunteer coordinator will take you through the volunteer recruitment process and the supervisor will provide you with regular supervision and will be your point of contact should you have any issues or concerns while volunteering.

If you are interested, please click the ‘Apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). The coordinator will then contact you by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder for your emails, just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out, then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow at [email protected]
