Foodbank Volunteers (Warehouse)

This role involves supporting the food bank team in managing food donations. Food donations are sorted, weighed and packed ready for distribution to people in crisis. By helping to organise and prepare food safely and efficiently, you ensure that individuals and families receive the essential support they need, offering practical help and hope at a time when it matters most.

-Key tasks:
• Ensure that all Trussell Trust warehousing procedures and processes are followed as per the food bank operating manual
• Receive food donations from members of the public and thank them warmly
• Check, weigh and record incoming stock accurately
• Sort food by date and type, removing any items that are damaged or out-of-date and weighing these out separately
• Keep the warehouse clean and tidy at all times, checking for evidence of pests and notifying the project manager of any concerns
• Prepare stock orders for the food bank centre and/or emergency food boxes, as required
• Assist in undertaking an annual stock take as detailed in the food bank operating manual
• Report any health & safety or safeguarding concerns to the food bank team
• Time commitment: Minimum of 2 hours and up to 4 hours per week (regular weekly commitment-Warehouse operates on a Monday and Friday)

Support
Training details

Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteers.

Volunteers receive a welcoming induction that introduces them to the food bank, their role, and key procedures including safeguarding, health and safety and manual handling.
Ongoing support is provided by the Food Bank Team, who offer regular check-ins, supervision and opportunities to ask questions. Volunteers are kept up to date with any changes to processes and can access refresher training whenever needed.
