Trustee

We aim to empower autistic people to support each other and advocate for our rights so that we are able to thrive across every area of life. At this exciting time of change and growth for AVATAR we are seeking new trustees to join our Board for the next phase of our journey.
AVATAR is a fledgling but ground-breaking charity, working to support autistic adults throughout the Scottish Borders. As an Autistic People’s Organisation (APO), we are run by and for autistic people, with a majority of autistic people* on our Board. We are the first and only APO in the Scottish Borders.
Through our activities, we aim to empower autistic people to support each other and advocate for our rights so that we are able to thrive across every area of life.
At this exciting time of change and growth for AVATAR we are seeking new trustees to join our Board for the next phase of our journey.
Whilst we are particularly keen to hear from people with finance and/or charity governance experience we would love to hear from everyone interested in getting involved with the charity in any way.
AVATAR Board meetings are held via video call - currently once per month, for around 2 hours. You can fulfil the trustee role from home and, other than board meetings, in your own time. The role is flexible to suit you.
We warmly welcome trustees from a range of cultures, backgrounds, age (18+) and experience.
*AVATAR is inclusive of all autistic-identified people - with a clinical or non-clinical diagnosis, NHS or private and self-diagnosed or self-identified.

Experience required

Whilst we are particularly keen to hear from people with finance and/or charity governance experience we would love to hear from everyone interested in getting involved with the charity in any way.
As an APO and as per AVATARs constitution, the board must have a majority of member trustees.
Membership is open to any individual aged 18 or over who identifies as autistic (either formally or self-diagnosed) and currently lives, works or attends education provision with the boundaries of the Scottish Borders
Associate membership is open to any person or organisation who wishes to support AVATAR in their aims and/or has a professional interest in our work.
