Volunteer Marshal

Volunteering details

Make 2nds Count is a patient and family-focused charity dedicated to bringing hope to those affected by secondary (metastatic) breast cancer. They empower communities through clear information and practical advice about treatment options and clinical trials. They connect patients through peer-to-peer and online support groups, wellbeing activities, and retreats. They invest in vital research into secondary breast cancer, and raise awareness of the disease and its symptoms through powerful, social-media-led campaigns.
Make 2nds Count are looking for volunteer Marshals for a sponsored walk on Sunday 23rd August. Volunteer roles can include:
Volunteer Marshals join the walk
Assistance: volunteers will be situated in locations around the walk should any of the walkers need assistance.
Fundraising: Marshals can hold a collection tin for anyone that wishes to donate to the charity. Volunteers are not asked/allowed to approach people to specifically ask for money.

Registration for the walk will be from 10am, the walk will commence at 11am. The walk is 5K so it is expected walkers will be finished by 1pm.
Volunteer Marshals will also be asked to help take down any signage on the walk at the end.

Experience required

Friendly upbeat and encouraging people. This is a community event and would like the marshals provide encouragement to walkers.

Helix Park and The Kelpies within Falkirk, FK2 7ZT.

Travel expenses

All volunteers are offered travel expenses.
Travel of up to 15 miles from home to where they are volunteering. Anything above 15 miles needs agreed with Make 2nds Count point of contact in advance. The most suitable method of travel will be agreed in advance.

Training details

Prior to the event taking place, Make 2nds Count will be in touch with background information on the charity and expectations for the day. All volunteers will be asked to sign an agreement so they understand what is expected of them and to keep in line with volunteer policy.
On the day of the event, there will be a full brief given from the event manager and an opportunity for any volunteers to ask questions and get clarifications regarding their role.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18

Most volunteers should be able to walk a min of 5K.
If you cannot but would still like to volunteer we can assign to a station where less walking is required.
