Musical Memories Volunteers – Musicians

Do you love music? Can you play the piano, guitar, or accordion?
If so, you could make a real difference by joining Musical Memories—a warm, welcoming singing group for people living with dementia, along with their partners, families, and friends.
We’re looking for an experienced musician to support our regular Musical Memories sessions for people living with dementia and their family and friends.
Volunteers take turns each week to provide live musical accompaniment, helping participants sing along to a variety of well-loved songs from different eras.
Each session follows a themed playlist, with another volunteer leading the singing and making announcements. Your role will be to play the instrumental backing (backline) and help create a warm, engaging atmosphere through music.
Run by a passionate team of volunteers, these sessions use the power of music to spark joy, boost brain activity, and encourage creativity and connection. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just enjoy playing for fun, your musical talents could help bring smiles and meaningful moments to others.
Previously held at the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Resource Centre, this event now takes place every second Friday, 1.30pm-3.00pm at the Cowdray Hall (in/next to Aberdeen Art Gallery), Schoolhill, Aberdeen, AB10 1JQ, supporting larger audiences and growing community engagement.
Excellent support and relevant training provided to all volunteers. Volunteers will receive a full induction to Musical Memories sessions, a tour of the venue and a copy of the Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums volunteer handbook. We will also provide training on Being Dementia Friendly.
A fantastic, enjoyable opportunity to help and make a real difference. All assistance is greatly appreciated.
