The Corstorphine Trust

The Corstorphine Trust is a local community association, based at The Corstorphine Heritage Centre (The Dower House) in St Margaret’s Park, Corstorphine.
Our current treasurer has intimated that they will retire at the 2027 AGM (around April time). We are looking to bring someone on board as soon as possible so that we can give a full and proper handover to the successful candidate and offer them the opportunity to shadow the current treasurer.
This is a busy and absolutely essential role within the charity. There are three trustee roles: chair, secretary and treasurer. The charity is run by an executive committee of up to 10 people (this number includes the trustees). The executive committee are all members of The Corstorphine Trust.
The following is a high level list of tasks that the treasurer undertakes through a calendar year.
YEARLY
- Start of the year hand over previous year’s Excel worksheets accountants along with:
- all previous year’s executive meeting minutes
- previous year’s draft AGM minutes
- bank statements up to and including 31 December Attend and present accounts to the AGM
- Assuming accounts are approved at the AGM, upload to OSCR along with a letter of authority.
- If applicable, reapply for water exemption.
- After tax year end, apply to HMRC for gift aid and gift aid small donations scheme refunds.
- As required - negotiate energy provider provider contracts.
- June-ish - check prices with telephone and broadband provider.
- November - Renewal notification received for insurance policy which renews in December. Ensure policy is still fit for purpose.
MONTHLY - Schedule payments for caretakers and administrative assistant.
- End of the month - If still appropriate, enter gas meter reading for hall.
- Filing of receipts/paper invoices.
- Check for memberships due to expire next month and (if not paid by s/o) send a reminder.
WEEKLY - Bank any cash or cheques.
- Ensure spreadsheets are up-to-date and reflect bank accounts.
- Liaise with administrative assistant iro rental payments.
- Check inbox and deal with any enquiries.
- Ensure cashflow is sufficient in bank accounts for bills etc.
ADHOC/Minders - Pay bills as required via online banking.
- Get a receipt for EVERYTHING (even if it's on the back of a fag packet!).
Experience required
You must be fully computer literate and have a working knowledge of Excel and online banking. Proof of these skills will have to be demonstrated.

A full handover will be given to the successful candidate with the opportunity to shadow the current treasurer.

Frequency & commitment
So long as they are carried out in a timely fashion, the various tasks undertaken by the treasurer can be carried out whenever and wherever is suitable.
