Engagement Volunteer - (Trans and Nonbinary Meetup)

We are recruiting event volunteer for our monthly Trans and Nonbinary Meetup in Dundee. This opportunity would suit someone with an awareness of issues affecting trans, nonbinary, and gender questioning individuals who also enjoys meeting new people and being in social settings.
With staff support, the following are some of the tasks typically required:
· Welcoming people to events
· Talking to people to help them feel comfortable
· Making sure the event is running smoothly
· Upholding safer space
· Promoting other parts of LGBT Health and Wellbeing’s service
· Help with tea and coffee
· Setting up the event, and clearing away afterwards
· Sharing ideas to help the event(s) and work develop
· Attending relevant meetings as required.
The group will demand a few hours on time a month (3-4 hours) and will take place on a Thursday evening.

Experience required

The role requires enthusiasm, initiative, and a strong interest in issues faced by trans people, including those who are particularly marginalised and vulnerable.
We are looking for volunteers who have:
· Understanding of the diverse needs of trans people and communities in Dundee and beyond
· Understanding of the need for confidentiality
· Good listening skills
· Ability to communicate well with a wide range of people, including people who are vulnerable and may be new to the service
· Commitment to creating a safe and inclusive space
· Reliability and punctuality
· Non-judgemental
· Honest and trustworthy
· Open to learning new things · Ability to work as part of a team, working closely with your supervisor, other staff and volunteers, as well as using own initiative

Travel expenses

Reasonable travel costs including travel to and from the place of volunteering and travel while volunteering will be reimbursed in accordance with the following guidelines; • Where ever possible the cheapest mode of transport should be used (usually public transport) • If a volunteer is entitled to any kind of travel concession such as senior citizen pass or student pass, this must be used to help minimise costs Ordinarily we will only pay travel expenses up to £15.

Training details

We run volunteer inductions for all our volunteers twice a year and provide ongoing learning opportunities. In addition to this, we arrange volunteer social sessions.
